This technique is similar to TAVR, where the mitral valve is replaced by non-surgical techniques however, it is presently done for these patients where a previous mitral valve replacement surgery has already been done in the past and the valve becomes dysfunctional or leaking.
Hence the second surgery which typically is a higher risk is completely avoided where the valve is changed with the catheter-based technique (mitral valve in valve MVIV). The success rate is more than 90% and Medanta is the only center in India performing this procedure.
